KKKKKKKKKKK Lost by 153 kilometers, bitter after 46 days
Forty-six days and a bitter taste.
Kiwoom Heroes foreign pitcher Enmanuel De Jesus started the 11th game of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League against the Samsung Lions at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea, on April 9.
In 12 appearances this season, De Jesus had a 7-3 record with a 3.44 ERA. He made one start for Samsung. On May 29 against Daegu, he gave up four runs on six hits, three walks, one home run, and four strikeouts in five innings, but was able to pick up the win with the help of his bats. He is tied for first in wins and sixth in ERA.
The first inning was a bit shaky. After giving up a leadoff double to Ryu Ji-hyeok and striking out Lee Sung-kyu, he gave up an RBI single to Koo Ja-ook. He then struck out Park Byung-ho and then tagged out Koo as he attempted to steal to escape further damage.
After a three-hit shutout inning in the second, Heisus showed his dominance in the third, striking out Jeon Byung-woo, Kim Jae-hyuk, and Ahn Joo-hyung. His 150-plus-kilometer fastball was a force to be reckoned with. His changeup and slider also kept the batters on their toes. In the fourth inning, Koo was hit by a pitch, but no runs were scored.
But the fifth inning was a problem. He struggled with his pitches. After leading off with a single to Kim Young-woong, Heisus struck out Kang Min-ho, but gave up a 사설토토 walk to Jeon Byung-woo. He then struck out Kim Jae-hyuk, but gave up a single to Ahn Joo-hyung to load the bases. Hoe-Sim's 149-kilometer pitch to Lee Sung-gyu was hit into left field, allowing two runners to cross the plate.
They couldn't get past the sixth inning. Heisus started with a leadoff walk to Kim Young-woong and struck out McKinnon, but faltered when he gave up another walk to Kim. The Kiwoom bench removed Heisu and brought up Cho Sang-woo. One of the left runners came home to extend the lead to four.
He was charged with four runs on five hits and four walks in 5.1 innings, striking out nine and walking four. He threw 91 pitches. He threw 32 fastballs, 24 changeups, 18 two-seamers, nine curves, and eight sliders. His fastball reached up to 153 kilometers. He set the second-most strikeouts in a single game with 10 against the Gocheok Lotte Giants on April 12, but he didn't have a smile on his face.
The team's bats weren't smiling either, as they failed to break through and Kiwoom lost their third straight game, falling to Samsung 1-7. Heisus also suffered his fourth loss of the season.
It was a chance to take sole possession of the multi-win lead. Neither James Nail of the KIA Tigers nor Detrick Enns of the LG Twins, who are tied for the lead in wins, were on the mound. However, despite pitching powerfully, Heisus was unable to get the win.
