'Shocked' at teammate's exclusion from nominations

 


Ederson was surprised to see Rodri missing from the Premier League (PL) Player of the Year nominations.

Manchester City will host Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on Friday at 4 p.m. ET in the 34th round of the 2023-24 English Premier League (PL) season. City is second in the league with 85 points, while Tottenham is fifth with 63 points.

“Ederson said it was unacceptable that Rodriguez was not in the running for the PL Player of the Year award,” ESPN reported on Thursday.

Rodriguez is City's “win fairy. He hasn't lost in his last 48 league games (39 wins and nine draws). The three defeats they have suffered this season came when he was suspended. Rodri's influence on the team is evident.

It is the centerpiece of Pep Guardiola's tactics. He distributes the ball from the center of the pitch and is quick to switch from side to side. He has played 2,757 minutes in the league this season, the most in the team. Thanks to his performances, City are in second 토토 place, one point behind leaders Arsenal, having played one game less. If they win all their remaining games, they can win the title on their own.


That's an incredible impact. But his name wasn't on the Premier League's shortlist for Player of the Year. Phil Foden, Elling Holland, Alexander Isaacs, Martin Ødegaard, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Virgil van Dijk, and Ollie Watkins were among the eight nominees.


Rodríguez's teammate Ederson was puzzled by the choice: “I can't accept that he's not there. If you look at his record, it's absurd that he's not on the list. I don't know what criteria they use to nominate players, but there are good players competing for this award. I think Rodri is a great candidate, but his name is not there,” he said, expressing his disappointment.


On the other hand, he was also rooting for another teammate. “I think I'm going to support Foden, he's having a great season. He's helped us a lot,” he said, praising Foden.
