Klopp's successor is not 'Liverpool fan' Postecoglou
Ruben Amorim (39) is the favorite to succeed Jürgen Klopp (55).
"Liverpool are in talks with Amorim to succeed Klopp," the BBC reported on Tuesday (June 10), adding that "Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso was the favorite to take over, but he has decided to stay at his current club."
Florian Plettenbereck, a soccer expert who is well versed in Bundesliga news, also posted on social media on Sept. 9 that "Amorim has reached an agreement in principle with Liverpool," adding that "Liverpool have been pushing for a deal for the last few weeks." According to Plettenberg, Amorim is happy to join Liverpool.
Why is a manager not yet 40 years old being considered for a big club? "Amorim led Sporting to their first league title in 19 years in 2021 when he was just 36 years old," says the BBC. He is coveted by many of Europe's biggest clubs."
Born in 1985, Amorim began his professional coaching career in his mid-30s when he took over at Sporting in 2020. In his second year in charge, he led Sporting to the title in the 2020-2021 season. It was the club's first title in 19 years, and the club and fans hailed Amorim as the best young coach in history. In the 2021-2022 season, Sporting put in an impressive performance in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), including a 3-1 victory over German giants Dortmund, to reach the round of 16 for the first time in 13 years.
After a highly anticipated season, the team underperformed last season. They were knocked out by Juventus in the quarterfinals of the Europa League (UEL) and failed to qualify for the UCL, finishing fourth in the league behind Benfica, Porto, and Braga. For the first time since his arrival, Sporting finished the season without a point.
This season, however, the club is on a winning streak. Sporting are four points clear of second-place Benfica with seven league games remaining. They are getting closer and closer to winning their first league title in three years.
Fellow Portuguese and Liverpool rival Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has also praised Amorim. "He has the ability to succeed in the English Premier League (EPL), but also in La Liga and Ligue 1," Bruno said, recognizing Amorim's success in the Portuguese league, according to Spain's Sport.
His eye for identifying talented youngsters and turning them into stars is similar to Klopp's. "Several of Amorim's players are already playing in the EPL," says the BBC. "Mateus Nunes (Manchester City), Pedro Foro (Tottenham) and João Palinha (Fulham) were key players in Amorim's Portuguese league title-winning side in the 2020-2021 season," the BBC explained.
In addition, Amorim plays practical attacking soccer, much like Klopp. As the BBC explains, "Amorim likes to press hard at Sporting. He also likes to attack quickly when he has the ball. "He uses a 3-4-3 formation, with the wing-backs also getting forward," said the BBC. "He has a good understanding of the game and a good rapport with his players.
The BBC also believes that Amorim has what it takes to be Klopp's successor. "Amorim should emulate the success of Klopp, who managed Liverpool for five years," the outlet said. "His managerial philosophy and personality would be a good fit for Liverpool. We believe he is exactly the kind of manager Liverpool has been looking for."
In addition, despite his young age as a coach, Amorim has the charisma and leadership to rally and manage his players. Most importantly, he has excellent communication skills, which allows him to run a stable team with the club and players without any noise.
According to Plettenberech, Amorim is expected to sign a three-year contract with Liverpool until 2027. However, negotiations are still ongoing and there are still more steps to be taken. Liverpool is not the only big club that wants Amorim. Bayern Munich, who are parting ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, have also reportedly put him 안전놀이터 on their shortlist. EPL giants Manchester United are also considering Amorim for their next managerial appointment following the departure of Eric ten Haag.
According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Amorim's buyout clause would be in the region of €20 million. This is not a problem for big clubs. It will be interesting to see which team Amorim will be coaching next season, as he recently said after the Liverpool transfer speculation that he cannot guarantee that he will stay at Sporting next season.
When Jurgen Klopp announced his resignation in February, Tottenham manager Enze Postecoglou was touted as a potential replacement. "Postecoglou is the ideal candidate to succeed Klopp," former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan argued at the time, according to The Sun. "If he becomes Liverpool's new manager, the club will give him the support he needs to succeed, just as they did with Klopp," he said. "The two managers have many similarities. Their charisma, personality, approachability, and style of play."
"There are several reasons why Postecoglou would be the perfect choice for Liverpool, including the fact that he has been a Liverpool fan since he was a child," said The Sun. "I had Liverpool posters on my wall like every other kid," Postecoglou said ahead of the Reds' last round seven clash, "they were my favorite team. They were my favorite team," he said before the last match. "He had never managed a team for more than three years. It's possible that he'll move on to a new challenge after a successful season."
Postecoglou responded: "I've only been here for seven months. I want to make it clear that we still have a long way to go to build the team we want to be, the team we want to have, the squad we want to have," he said. "We've only had two positive transfer windows. It may look like we're having a good season, but there's still a long way to go," he said, expressing his desire to focus on Tottenham.
"The reality is that a lot of things are out of our control, so we don't have to worry or think about it," he said, leaving open the possibility that anything could happen. "I've been in soccer for 26 years. That's the best way to understand what I'm doing now," he said. Postecoglou added: "I have a lot of games left in this season, 38 rounds. All I can do now is to focus on the remaining games," he said, dismissing speculation of a move to Liverpool.
