'90s tablesetters set the table, commander laughs
The Doosan Bears have won two straight games.
Doosan won 7-4 at home against the Hanwha Eagles on Tuesday at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, South Korea. Doosan won for the seventh time in nine games.
Doosan's starting lineup was Jung Soo-bin (center field), Heo Kyung-min (third base), Yang Ji-hyun (catcher), Kim Jae-hwan (designated hitter), Yang Seok-hwan (first base), Kang Seung-ho (second base), Park Jun-young (shortstop), Kim Dae-hwan (right field), and Cho Sung-hyun (left field).
Doosan started Raul Alcantara on the mound. Alcantara, who was an ace last year with a 13-9 record and a 2.67 ERA, has pitched 19⅓ innings in three games this season with a 1.86 ERA. Despite his strong outings, he is winless with one loss.
Alcantara threw a total of 98 pitches on the day, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks with three strikeouts in four innings. His fastball topped out at 153 mph and he mixed in splitters (28) and sliders (8).
After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, the bats responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take the pressure off Alcantara. Alcantara gave up two runs in the fourth inning, but the lead held until the fifth inning.
Alcantara was followed on the mound by Park Jung-soo (one scoreless inning), Lee Byung-heon (⅔ scoreless inning), Park Chi-guk (1⅓ scoreless 토토 innings), and Jeong Chul-won (one scoreless inning) to secure the win. Alcantara earned his first win of the season.
While the pitching staff was held to four runs, the bats came alive.
Yang Ji-hyun hit a three-run home run in the first inning to open the scoring, and the tablesetter, who was born in 1990, shined. Jung Soo-bin had three hits and Heo Kyung-min had a multi-hit game.
"We gave up the first run in the first inning, but Yangji hit a home run right away to set the tone for the game," said Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop. "Jung-soo-bin is doing a perfect job as the top hitter this year, and Heo Kyung-min is doing a great job at second."
Alcantara also congratulated Alcantara on his first win. "I would like to congratulate Alcantara on his first win after pitching well but not getting the win, and thank the fans for their support," Lee said.
