'Messi no-show aftermath' organizers "refund 50% of ticket price".


 

The controversy surrounding Lionel Messi's (Inter Miami) no-show continues to grow.

Tattler Asia, the organizer of Inter Miami's friendly match in Hong Kong, released a statement on its official social media accounts on the 9th (KST).

"We would like to apologize to all those who were disappointed by Inter Miami's soccer match," Tattler Asia said.

"Miami had a contract that required their key players, including Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suarez, to play a full 45 minutes unless injured. However, we have been informed by Miami that Messi and Suarez are unable to play due to injury."

"We urged the Miami owners and management to explain why he was not allowed to play," said Tattler Asia, "but they did not. The fact that Messi and Suarez played in Japan feels like a slap in the face."

Miami coach Tata Martino had hinted at Messi's availability in his pre-match press conference, but the Argentine was ruled out with a muscle injury.

Tattler Asia said: "We have been in discussions with the Hong Kong government to resolve this issue, and also with the Consumer Council. According to the Associated Press, Tattler Asia will refund a total of HK$56 million (about $9.5 billion), resulting in a loss of HK$43 million (about $7.3 billion).

In a statement, the Hong Kong government said it "welcomes the settlement and considers it a responsible step," adding, "We still have many questions about the incident after watching Messi play in Japan and hope Miami will provide a reasonable explanation to the public."

"I was really unlucky," Messi said at a press conference ahead of the match against Japan on Saturday. I felt discomfort in my adductor muscle in the first match in Saudi Arabia.
