Second straight challenge match, 25 gold medals to lead the way

Gyeonggi-do, which has won back-to-back overall titles amid the COVID-19 pandemic, led the way at the 104th National Sports Games, winning the most gold medals on the second day of competition.

Gyeonggi-do won 35 gold, 26 silver and 38 bronze medals on the second day of competition on Thursday, maintaining its lead over its "nemesis" Seoul (25 gold, 29 silver, 34 bronze) and taking an early lead to win its second consecutive title.

Kim Jung-min (Ansan Gonggong High School), a 73-kilogram weightlifter in the men's high school weightlifting division, won the karate (179 kilograms) and total (307 kilograms) to win two gold medals, while Park Sang-hoon (Uijeongbu City Hall) won the men's general 4-kilometer individual pursuit in 4 minutes, 37.357 seconds to become the second gold medalist of the tournament after winning the 4-kilometer team pursuit the day before.

In addition, Lee Woo-seok (Kolon) in the men's high school badminton and archery 90 meters and Lee Yong-bin (Kyunghee University) in the men's general 70 meters won gold medals with 340 points each, while Lee Dae-myung and Jang Jin-hyuk (Gyeonggi Provincial Office) took first and second place in the men's general 50m pistol individual competition with 565.0 and 558.0 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, Cho Eun-so (Gyeonggi Province) won her third consecutive title in the girls' 55-kilogram freestyle wrestling after switching weight classes, while Yoon Hyun-ji (Ansan City Government), a 78-kilogram national champion in the women's general judo, and Yoon Young-jung (Gyeonggi Province), a national champion in the men's high school surface 50m backstroke and men's general surface 400m, respectively, won their respective events in 16.67 seconds and 3:03.02. The aerobic hip-hop mixed team event also won with 27.200 points.

In addition, in the first round of the men's high school rugby, Bucheon Bukgo beat Daejeon Myeongseokgo 24 to 5 to reach the quarterfinals, while 스포츠토토 the men's general tennis team competition, Seongnam Naksaenggo in basketball, Uijeongbu Girls High School in handball, and Seongnam City Hall in men's general hockey also passed the first round easily.

An official from the Gyeonggi-do Sports Association said, "There are many early runners in the ball sports, which have caused difficulties in the supply of athletes and training for the past three years due to Corona 19," and cautiously predicted, "However, we think it is possible to win the overall title for the second consecutive time because the sluggishness of some sports is largely offset by other sports."
